Private Company Takes Over Rail Operations at The Port of Caddo-Bossier

Shreveport, La. – The Port of Caddo-Bossier has hired Rail Link, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Genesee & Wyoming to handle all rail operations. It is one of the leading rail switching companies at ports around the world. Rail Link began operations this week.

The Port’s tremendous growth in barge and rail traffic meant it would have to increase the size and expertise of its rail team. Instead, The Port has entered into a partnership with Rail Link, so it can continue to provide high quality service and safety, which is an important part of its mission.

“The Port of Caddo Bossier has done a great job for a long time building the rail business and supporting its customers, and we intend to do the same,” said Rail Link President Andrew Chunko. “Our goal is a seamless transition, and we look forward to building long-term relationships based on safety, service and growth for the Port and our new customers.”

“This is a win-win situation for our customers, Rail Link and the Port,” said Executive Director Eric England. “The Port shifted its already crossed trained operations employees from the Port’s day-to-day rail operations to the maritime and ground transportation multimodal facilities.  At the same time, we are providing better service at a competitive price for all our customers. Given Rail Link’s domestic and international transportation and logistics breadth, I expect immense growth in our rail traffic and access to markets we have been unable to reach.”

G&W has 2,800 customers and works with ports all around the world, including Baton Rouge, Galveston, Corpus Christi and Wilmington, North Carolina. It currently has 122 railroads with 16,000 miles of track, most of it in North America.

The 2,600 acre Port of Caddo-Bossier is located at the head of navigation on the Red River Waterway in Northwest Louisiana. An inland multi-modal transportation and distribution center, The Port works hand in hand with the port system of Louisiana to successfully link customers throughout the Ark-La-Tex region to domestic and international markets via the Mississippi River, the nation's largest river system, and the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway.
